I'm going to make the individual components of the cat stole not quite flat. The underbody will be one H-shaped piece, with the top pieces overlapping a bit more than they would need to for a completely flat cat. So they'll have some shape and roundness, but not much. Aha! I've figured out why this blouse is too small. I hadn't noticed before, but the pattern measurement given on the pattern envelope is for the finished garment. The other, more complex pattern gives both body measurement and finished garment size on the envelope; the latter is more than ten inches bigger than the former ( Read more... )

I've almost finished making myself a new blouse, mostly as a test to see how it's done. The only thing left is the buttons and buttonholes. When I tried it on, however, it seems to be too small--specifically, too tight across the chest. This despite the measurements on the pattern making it seem the right size ( Read more... )

I just started work on a velvet skirt that I've been planning for a while. This is not the pattern I made from my beloved skirt, but a commercial pattern that I used once before, some years ago. (The resultant skirt needs the elastic in the waist to be taken out and shortened, so I haven't worn it all that much, but it's a good pattern ( Read more... )

I succumbed to the temptation of last week's Bright Idea and am making a winged buffalo. For a couple of reasons, I haven't cut out the wings yet. As I was sewing the body this afternoon, it occurred to me: Since buffalo wings are hot, should I make them out of red fur, instead of the same brown as the body ( Read more... )

It's going to have to be the longer fur. (But the other one's so pretty! *sniff*)

Morning, and I still haven't made up my mind about which green fur to use. I have come to the realization that it's a logic vs. emotion thing:

"*sigh* I really should use the one with the deeper pile."
               vs.
"But I wanna use the minty one! It's so pretty!"

Until I can resolve that, I'll be sewing blue to white, but that's all.
